Links
The internet is growing and changing every day. There are more educational sites, more commerce sites, and more porn sites than the day before.
PLEASE, PLEASE protect your children. SERVER SIDE filtering, such as American Family Online, keeps destructive websites from getting into your home. No Christian home should have unfiltered internet service. If you don't filter your internet, you're asking for trouble.
The links here are safe as far as we know. I've checked them recently and will continue to check them periodically. If something objectionable comes up through one of these links, please let me know. Science related sites may have evolution content. Other sites provide products that we have found very helpful and we want you to know about them.
ENJOY!!
American Family Online's Total Net Guard offers server side internet filtering. I use AFO on my computer and can highly recommend their services. They filter out pornography, violence, illegal activities, and more. Unlike software that you install on your computer, AFO stops the porn from getting into your home in the first place. The marketiers the pornography industry know that exposing a pre-teen to their material creates a life-long customer. No home with young children or any Christian home should be without filtered internet service.

After over 10 years of enduring several migraines a month, I was desperate for relief. One day while researching online, I found Migraine Defense, developed by a nurse who suffered from migraines since childhood. I had tried everything else, and thought why not? I followed their directions, and couldn’t believe the results. This product is natural, herbal, and preventative in nature. I take it every day to prevent migraines. The ingredients are similar to those in products for menopausal women, which is an extra benefit to women in that age group. I feel like telling the world. Maybe it will work for you. It’s worth a try, isn’t it?
With HSLDA on your side, you can rest assured that when the Town Council, Principal of the local public school, Board of Education, or Child Protective Services comes calling, you will have an attorney on call who can tell you (and them) what to do. We have been members for a VERY long time and recommend HSLDA to all new and current home schoolers we meet. This is the best assurance you can buy. If you aren't members of HSLDA yet, you need to contact them NOW.
The Typical Course of Study from World Book Encyclopedia lists topics studied by students in K-12th grade nationwide. The information is categorized by grade level and academic discipline, and is very helpful to homeschool parents. We offer it NOT as a prescription for what you should be doing, but as a reference for your own long-term planning. Visit World Book to download this helpful, free resource.
Nikola Tesla was a brilliant and flamboyant showman. He held 700 patents and his discoveries include the tesla coil, fluorescent light, and radio. He would connect himself to a very high voltage electrical source and proceed to demonstrate some of the fascinating things that high voltage will do. I found the high voltage "shower" quite interesting. Seems the high voltage would literally blow the dirt and dead skin off his body. Visit The Tesla Society for more information.
Spaceweather.com has links showing solar events, solar flares, etc. It also gives dates for upcoming stellar and solar events.
Going camping? Need a weather report? Try the National Weather Service. Don't just go there for the weather. They have some neat satellite pictures of storms, too.
NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) has several wonderfully informative sites available. Click NASA to access their home page and the space program as well as some really nice educational materials. These materials are for both students and teachers. (For us home schoolers, "teachers" means Mom and Dad.)
Hubble Telescope--Remember the Hubble Telescope? You know, the one that was out of focus when they put it in space? It's in focus now and continues to take AWESOME pictures from space. This site has a good number of photographs from the Hubble.
Sunspots Link--I remember when I was a child, I had a telescope with a device I could put on the eyepiece. I would then point the telescope at the sun and I could look at the sunspots. And, no, I'm not blind now as a result. (Kids, DO NOT try this unless you have an adapter for your telescope and your parents know you're doing it!!) This website has some very interesting pics and movies of solar activity.
NASA Earth Science--Did you know that NASA also does earth studies? No? Well, check this out.
How the Space Shuttle Works--They say that the Space Shuttle is THE most complex machine on the planet. Here, you can find out how it works.
